Effective Family and Community Collaboration:

To support learning, schools must collaborate with families and community members to plan and implement programs and services. To that end, TTA leaders will engage parents, families, and community members in the education of their children to create a positive bond between home and school. TTA parents and community members are considered important11 stakeholders.

of the school and will be included in decision-making at the school. Their involvement will be one of the TTA staffs’ top priorities as the school works to improve student learning. To foster authentic collaboration, community members will be contributors rather than ‘receivers.’ School leaders will implement research-based strategies to encourage stakeholder’s involvement. TTA leaders will monitor the effectiveness of the Stakeholders Involvement Plan by continually assessing its quality and impact, gathering data that includes the parent/community communication system, participation logs, sign in sheets, PTA membership.

and Volunteer logs, PTA agendas and minutes, and participation in family-teacher conferences, the family’s’ satisfaction with school practices is measured by community climate survey.

School leaders will use the following various community engagement strategies to ensure an effective two-way proactive, culturally, and linguistically appropriate communication:

TTA communication is delivered in the predominant languages of the target community. This will encourage parents and caregivers to become more involved in the life of the school (Pena, 2001)12.  Various avenues of communication will be used such as in-person meetings, traditional mailings, flyers, newsletters as well as virtual communication (email, blogs, messages, social media).

TTA staff encourage parents and community members to engage in school decision making and to serve on the governing board as well as on school committees. In addition to inviting community members as guest speakers and invite local and regional experts from various professions to be workshop leaders.

TTA staff arrange field trips to neighborhood facilities and will encourage community involvement through service-learning projects to support the school’s graduation requirement of 200 hours of community service. Such activities will help them become proactive members that represent the school in the community.

TTA staff create social networking opportunities for parents and the community by hosting events such as an International Night, an Academic Curriculum Night, TTA Vision Night, and

a quarterly special luncheon with parents and their students. In addition, TTA will provide free classes in English and technology to help parents support student learning at home. Additionally, the school will support newcomers and immigrants to better understand USA educational system
