SCIENCE

Think Through Academy’s Science Curriculum will be aligned with Arizona’s College and Career Ready standards.

Earth Science 1: Prerequisite: None, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

Course introduces students to the study of the earth from a local and global perspective. In this course, students typically learn about time zones, latitude and longitude, atmosphere, weather, climate, matter, and energy transfer.

Earth Science 2: Prerequisite: Pass Earth Science 1, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

Course introduces student to advanced topics often include the study of the use of remote sensing, computer visualization, and computer modeling to enable earth scientists to understand earth as a complex and changing planet.

Biology 1: Prerequisite: None, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

This course provides students with a basic understanding of living things. Topics covered include ecology and environmental problems such as overpopulation and pollution as well as cells, types of organisms, evolutionary behavior, and inheritance.

Biology 2: Prerequisite: Pass Biology 1, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

Biology is the study of living organisms, their origins, how they survive, reproduce, change over time, and interact with each other and their environments. The primary objective of the course is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of modern biology and scientific processes.

Chemistry 1: Prerequisite: None, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

Chemistry courses involve studying the composition, properties, and reactions of substances. These courses typically explore such concepts as the behaviors of solids, liquids, and gases; acid/base and oxidation/reduction reactions; and atomic structure. Chemical formulas and equations and nuclear reactions are also studied.

Chemistry 2: Prerequisite: Pass Chemistry 1, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit

Course covers chemical properties and interactions in more detail. Advanced chemistry topics include organic chemistry, thermodynamics, electro-chemistry, macro-molecules, kinetic theory, and nuclear chemistry.

Physical Science: Prerequisite: None, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit each

Physical Science 1-2 Two-quarter course. Students must have taken Physical Science 1 to be enrolled in Physical Science 2. Arizona Science Standards graduation requirement Meets laboratory science admission requirement of Arizona universities. Coursework includes the study of the basic concepts of chemistry and physics, as well as mathematical applications. This courses provide students the opportunity to use problem-solving strategies, the scientific method, hands-on lab experiences and cooperative learning strategies, in addition it required them to do scientific inquiry and gain a knowledge base to support those inquiries. Physical Science 1-2 is a science course intended to provide the foundation for success in future science courses.

Physics: Prerequisite: Pass Alg 1A, Alg 1B, 1 Quarter –.5 Credit each

Physics courses involve the study of the forces and laws of nature affecting matter, such as equilibrium, motion, momentum, and the relationships between matter and energy. The study of physics includes examination of sound, light, and magnetic and electric phenomena. physics 1 and 2 meets Arizona Science Standards graduation requirement and meets laboratory science admission requirement of Arizona universities.

Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2: Prerequisite: Pass Biology 1 and 2, 1 Quarter–.5 Credit each.

This course emphasizes on the structure and function of the human body. Major areas of study will include cells, tissue, integument system, skeletal system, muscular system, and endocrine system. Anatomy and Physiology 2 requires a passing score on Anatomy and Physiology 1. It emphasizes on the structure and function of the human body. Major areas of study will include cells, tissue, integument system, skeletal system, muscular system, and endocrine system.
